August 2006 Edition
‘ Om Swastyastu’
Peak season’ greetings and welcome to our beloved Island of Bali. This start of the regional holiday season has experienced a rather cool start of summer, with chilly winds from the southeast that are felt even during the bright of day. But nevertheless the traditional kites are specking the skies and that is what you are here for… the sun, sand, surf and the culture.
We hope you enjoy your holiday time on this island and we hope that your choice of grabbing a copy of Bali & Beyond may provide you some pleasure through our interesting features that we have managed to pack into this issue.
In this edition we take on the pedals to experience the best of the region has to offer. We caught up again with our fellow Bavarian bravado, contributor Werner Duderstadt, an apt cycling professional who organizes bicycle tours, and this time we put him to the test.
In Beyond Bali, we do a double take to the neighboring island Java’s Central and East . Venturing to the rims and chasm of the magnificent Ijen Crater in East Java, we view amidst the beautiful vistas the hard working sulfur miners of the world’s largest sulfuric lake. Our venturing contributor Djuna Ivereigh provides us some insight to the most recent sights from the devastations that struck the idyllic and national heritage hub of Central Java, Yogyakarta.
Through Dining & Delights it’s the culinary journey of a lifetime on a full day out with world renowned Bumbu Bali founder and traditional Balinese cookery fanatic Heinz von Holzen, as this avid cyclist guides us on the colorful and tasty world of traditional Balinese cuisine.
‘Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om…’
