'Om Swastyastu'

Welcome to Bali and the July edition of Bali & Beyond, which takes us into the second half of 2007. We've prepared features that we hope can accompany you during your adventures in Bali, and beyond.

In Focus Feature we present to you aspects of water that form the basis of Balinese life and architectural magnificence. Through Craft & Culture we look into the final Balinese rite of passage that follows after the cremation ceremony.

The next time you opt to experience authentic Balinese cuisine, head for a more traditional warung! Through Dining & Delights our contributor discovers and samples one such a warung in Petitenget that not only serves delicious food but also the provides the Balinese family spirit of taking you in like a long lost family member. They offer insightful and fun cooking classes as well!

For your leisure time, Rest & Relaxation presents Maya Ubud Resort & Spa's new expanded spa pavilions along the banks of the legendary Petanu River. For art and history enthusiasts, in Paradise Portrait we marvel at the Museum Le Mayeur in Sanur, which portrays the love of a Belgian aristocratic artist as pictured through over 90 paintings in its collection.

And above all, do have yourself a healthy holiday as we did, pedaling up the eastern hills of Bali and all the way to the majestic Taman Ujung water palace. In Resort Review, we did it all with Yessy of Alila and the resort crew, exploring the best of the uplands, taking a brief pause at an organic garden (pictured), and then retreating back to the shores of the Alila Manggis in Karangasem.

With Beyond Bali, waterfalls, rainbows, and legends await you at Bali's nearest island neighbor across the Wallace Line, coming from one of our contributor's yearnings to discover its hidden treasures, which she now readily shares with us. Read on… and enjoy!
