Black and White
THE exhibition of a collection of works from an international group of artists working in Bali, consisting of paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography in various media, all done in black and white, opened at the new Franklin Lee Gallery on September 29. Featured are works in steel and mixed media by Pablo Gentile, sculptures by Filippos, paintings and drawings by Aleksandra Denic, paintings by Ronnie Singer, photos by â?~Sir Real', and paintings by Isabelle and others.
The island's newest art space, the Franklin Lee gallery, is made up and run by an international group of artists, curators and designers who are dedicated to bringing contemporary world standard art to the island.
There is a wealth of creative talent, both Indonesian and foreign, working in Bali, not necessarily catering to the commercial aspirations of local gallery owners whose main concern are sales of what in the West would be considered decorations.
Franklin Lee serves as a showcase for these artists with future exchange programs slated, allowing local Indonesian artists to get a chance to exhibit and study in the USA, Europe and Japan, with reciprocal agreements in the making with galleries in London, New York and Tokyo.
This arrangement will provide these Indonesian artists with the chance to exhibit and study abroad, and artists from other galleries to get the chance to exhibit and work with local artists here.
