FROM NATURE'S HEAT AND PRESSURE, TO MAN'S HEART AND PLEASURE
A gem of a place on its own, inspiration-seekers will find their long lost love affair in a piece of fine-cut semiprecious stone — matched either with silver or gold or just in its singular form.

The romance of gems has imparted lasting beauty to the life of mankind for centuries. Gem, via the Latin gemma meaning "bud", is an apt term to use when describing precious stones as they are found in nature; crystals like flowers, budding amid solid rock. These include not only a number of famous jewels as we know, but also many outstanding examples of gemstones in their natural state. Such specimens – emerald crystals sprouting from a matrix of shale, topaz growing from feldspar and quartz – amaze the many visitors who visualize gems only as they appear in the jeweler's showcase, cut and polished. And later, aesthetically set with gold or silver.

We may define a gem as a beautiful stone, and that of course is essentially correct. While experts may refine the meanings of the term, most since antiquity have agreed that a gem must be both beautiful and durable. The beauty of a gem depends on its color, or on its distinctive ability to reflect, refract, and disperse light. Today as always the value of a gem depends on the additional factors of rarity and fashion. These qualities, combined with the remoteness of so many gem sources, have surrounded gems with an aura of romance and mystery.
LUSTROUS, PRECIOUS, SEMIPRECIOUS
From our planet's very slowly but constantly cooling crust, forming and reforming its mineral constituents, nature has poured in basic ingredients, elements of which the earth is composed ranging from actinium to zirconium, cobalt to germanium; elements unevenly distributed. Mineralogists have been able to identify about 2,000 distinct combinations of the basic elements; these are the known minerals. Fewer than 100 qualify as gemstones.
A common distinction is made between precious and semi-precious stones in modern usage; precious stones are diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald, with all other gemstones being semiprecious. This distinction is unscientific and reflects the rarity of the respective stones in ancient times as well as their quality, as all are translucent with fine color in their purest forms.
As the earth's crust changes and weathers and rivers cut through geological strata, gem-bearing deposits may be exposed and the valuable crystals themselves find their way into river gravel, where we luckily might simply bend over and pick them up. A large number of minerals have been used as gems. Their value generally depends on four elements: the beauty of the stone itself, its rarity, its hardness and toughness, and the skill with which it has been cut and polished. And to add a fifth element to it – the heart and passion put into each piece of crafted jewelry. The latter are such of the findings at a pretty and petite domicile in Bali's own Petitenget, where all gem exquisiteness can be found in a single place.
